Regulation

…and Even More Of The Same

This is the third part of what was supposed to be a two part post.  I feel that this third section is important because it gets to the very core of what, in my mind, the O.O.C.C. should be about and if you are going to participate, what your business should be about.

...The More They Stay the Same.

This is the second part of what was supposed to be a two part post. As I suspected, it will be longer than just two posts in order to vent all my frustrations adequately. My previous post in this series described my involvement in a meeting of the Grades and Standards Committee of the Olive Oil Commission of California on February 27, 2019.

The More Things Change…

This is the first part of a two part post. In fact I will probably have to make it longer than just two posts to vent all my frustrations adequately. The intent of this first section is to report on my involvement in a meeting of the Grades and Standards Committee of the Olive Oil Commission of California on Wednesday, February 27, 2019.

Flavored Oils

Tariffs

I would like to explain a dramatic price increase that will occur over the next few months for many of the bottles we sell. This is not intended to be a partisan post nor a politicization of anything. I only hope to make clear something that I worry is not clear to many of our customers and to consumers in general. This is a post about tax policy and the effects of tariffs.

Fake News

I have been following, at some remove, the steady flow of lawsuits in the olive oil industry, not in small part through The Olive Oil Times but also through other media. It is really a staggering lineup including so many of the giants like Deoleo, Filippo Berio, Safeway Inc., Capatriti (Kangadis), and the most recent additions to the list, J.M.

Regulation

When I got into this business I had visions of sunset strolls through the orchard on warm summer evenings and enjoying a glass of wine or dining al fresco with a beautiful view over the orchard.

Flexibility

One of the basic principals of The Olive Oil Source is flexibility. We feel that the best service we can offer to our customers is to provide them with what they need and not require nor limit them to purchase everything from us. If they have a specific bottle they want to use that we don’t carry or want to label bottles themselves, fine. If for example, they have a direct tie to an E.V.O.O.

Fraud and Scams

Regulation Navigating the Olive Oil Industry: Protect Yourself from Fake EVOO Sadly, the fact is that there is indeed an abundance of fraudulent/adulterated extra virgin olive oil on the market. Different organizations use slightly different rules for classifying an olive oil as extra virgin olive oil. There is no exact gold standard that is followed by all regions that produce extra virgin olive oil.
